Montreal police release video of SAQ shooting suspects

MONTREAL – Montreal Police have released a video and photos of two men they believe to be suspects in a shooting earlier this week that has left the victim – a cashier at the Société des alcools du Québec outlet in Baie d’Urfe – paralyzed.

The employee, a 58-year-old woman, suffered a gunshot wound to her neck.

She remains in intensive care is being guarded by a heavy police presence, The Gazette has learned.

Montreal Police Constable Yannick Paradis said police are trying to determine whether the woman had been targeted. The attack was initially described as an attempted robbery.

The photos and video shows two men, wearing hoodies and gloves, rushing into the SAQ outlet on Morgan Road just after noon on Oct. 18, then rushing out.

According to a news release issued by the police, the men went to the back of the outlet where they found the woman, who was alone in the store, shot her and fled.

The woman was found 20 minutes later by a customer who called 911.

Nothing was stolen.

Neither police nor the the Société des alcools du Québec would release any further information about the woman..

"We are very saddened by what has occurred… the victim and her family are in our thoughts," said Diane Bouchard, a spokeswoman for the liquor corporation.

Bouchard could not say if the SAQ has a policy on employees working alone.

An anonymous donor has offered a $5,000 reward through Sun Youth for information that would lead to the arrest and/or conviction of the two men involved in the attempted murder.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to call info-Crime at 514-393-1133. Callers may remain anonymous and all calls are confidential.
