Alberta declares state of emergency as wildfires rage
Description
May 6, 2023
The province of Alberta has declared a state of emergency after tens of thousands of people have been forced from their homes in recent days over spreading wildfires. “Under the Emergency Management Act the declaration gives the government greater powers to respond to extreme situations for example the province can access emergency funds, mobilize additional supports and continue to work with municipalities, organizations and businesses to support affected residents," Premier Danielle Smith said on Saturday.
