Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to calls by some Canadians to end ties with the monarchy, including a recent poll showing a majority of Canadians don’t want King Charles III as their head of state. He said while people can make the argument for cutting ties, they’re unable to agree on an alternative to the constitutional monarchy. He said diving into constitutional negotiations on the issue would take away from focusing on Canadians and providing things like dental care and working on affordability.
