After NASA recruited Canada’s brightest minds from the cancelled Avro Arrow project, Canadians like Owen Maynard and Bryan Erb went on to make significant contributions to Apollo. Maynard, from Sarnia ON, was chief engineer of the lunar landing module. Erb, originally from Calgary, was responsible for designing the heat shield that allowed the command module to re-enter the atmosphere under intense heat. Mike Armstrong reports.
