Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, underwater mines have posed a major risk in the Black Sea. Finding and detonating those mines is the work of Royal Canadian Navy dive teams – something that is both dangerous and requires extraordinary skill. In this case, a team from Halifax has been tasked with the job. Here, Heidi Petracek speaks to one of the members.
