Officials scramble to find motel fire evacuees long-term housing

The City of Penticton is scrambling to find accommodations for about a dozen people displaced by Friday’s fire at the Highland Motel.

Displaced residents were given sleeping cots and three meals a day at the local community centre, but after four nights, emergency funding has run dry.

As Shelby Thom reports, finding long-term housing for the low-income tenants during the peak tourism season is proving nearly impossible.
