We’re getting our first glimpse inside a violent transnational drug-running ring in which the FBI accuse a Canadian man of operating. Forty-four year-old Ryan Wedding, who is thought to be hiding in Mexico, is accused of not only cocaine smuggling on an industrial scale, but of ordering the murder of an FBI witness with the help of a Canadian hitman. And a high-profile lawyer is among the seven Canadians accused of helping Wedding carry out his crimes. The allegations are spelled out in court documents — Touria Izri is going through them and has more. The Alberta government has introduced new legislation that is aimed at how far professional regulators can go in policing what their members say outside of work. The law is named after psychologist and media personality Jordan Peterson and it claims to give doctors, engineers and other professionals freedom to speak without repercussion.
