Abilities Centre in Whitby will soon be home to the world's largest installation of Helsinki University Research (HUR) accessible gym equipment. While the facility already has equipment by HUR, it has not seen an upgrade since opening in 2012. What makes the machines unique, is their use of air resistance systems rather than weights. They also feature joint-friendly designs that help enhance strength and endurance while lowering injury risk. Everyone will be able to use the machines, including people with disabilities, which avoids segregating gym-goers. A grand opening will be held at the end of September when the new equipment is installed.
