Waitlists for children to receive an autism assessment through the public system can be up to three years long. For kids to get the early help they need, Variety is funding a pilot project with Simon Fraser University to train graduate students how to perform assessments. This program means more practitioners will lead to shorter wait times, with the goal of hopefully eliminating the long wait times altogether.
