With only two days left of the United Nations (UN) COP28 climate summit, major energy producers are pushing back against an international commitment to end the use of oil and gas, with OPEC nations among those resisting the hardest. The latest version of negotiations, which were released Friday, shows countries considering several options ranging from agreeing to phasing out fossil fuels, phasing out “abated fossil fuels” with carbon capture and storage, to no mention of phasing out fossil fuels at all.
