The municipal bylaw was first enacted on Aug. 24, 2020.  It requires a face covering to be worn at all times while in public indoor spaces and public vehicles.

Alberta Health reported Monday that there were 20 cases of the UK variant and five cases of the South African variant in the province.

Jason Kenney said about 90 per cent of Albertans are already under some sort of a mask mandate, brought in by municipalities.

One day after premier Jason Kenney asked Albertans to voluntarily stop hosting social gatherings at home, the province has added another 919 cases of COVID-19.

Students will be heading back to classrooms under re-entry Scenario 1 in September, which means near normal operations with some health measures. 

Lethbridge city council has passed a bylaw that will temporarily make face coverings mandatory in all indoor public spaces to help contain the spread of COVID-19. 

The proposed bylaw to make masks compulsory in all public indoor spaces comes after city-owned facilities started requiring face coverings last week.

The provincial non-medical mask distribution program has come to an end, Alberta's government said Monday. 

On Monday evening, members of the town council began debating a proposed bylaw that would make mask use mandatory in all indoor public spaces, similar to a bylaw recently passed in Calgary.
