The province now has 4,803 active cases, 124,114 recoveries and 1,818 deaths.

More than 300 COVID-19 infections and the death of one 35-year-old man have been linked to an outbreak of the illness at the Olymel meat plant in Red Deer.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the 1,240 cases came from 18,306 completed tests, giving the province a positivity rate of 6.8 per cent.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw took Wednesday's COVID-19 update as an opportunity to encourage Albertans to take the vaccine when it becomes more widely available.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw warned that Albertans should be planning for online celebrations and small outside gatherings for holidays in December like Christmas and Hanukkah.

Premier Jason Kenney said Sunday if Albertans don't follow public health recommendations, "we'll have no option but to look at more restrictive measures down the line."

There have now been 12,748 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

There are currently 1,124 active cases across the province, with the majority in the Edmonton and Calgary zones. 

Active cases across Alberta sit at 1,430 on Tuesday. Of those, 87 people are in hospital and 17 people are being treated in intensive care.

Active cases of COVID-19 across the province are now at 1,397, down slightly compared to Monday's active number of 1,430.
