No big shock, but liquor sales in Saskatchewan were through the roof during Grey Cup week.
The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority officials say the numbers even took them by surprise.
Booze sales were up 52 percent or $1.2 million compared to the same week last year.
The Dewdney Avenue store supplied Evraz Place with alcohol, increasing its sales by 152 percent.
“Obviously the Riders are Saskatchewan’s team,” said David Morris, spokesperson for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming. “Once they’re in it, it sort of brought extra sales into our stores outside of Regina and Moose Jaw as well. It really exceeded what we expected.”
Provnice-wide liquor sales were up by 21 percent.
