“You’ve given me a wonderful life,” he said before taking his last breath. “I love you all.”
Family Guy executive producer Steve Callaghan said Brian’s death was “a fun way to shake things up.”
He told E! News: “We got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters.”
The Griffin family is already moving on. Brian has been replaced by Vinny, a pooch voiced by Sopranos star Tony Sirico.
Family Guy airs Sunday nights on Global. It returns with a new episode on Dec. 8.
