Toronto police said the incident occurred at around 6:48 p.m. on Friday in the Vaughan Road and Atlas Avenue area.

Officers said a pedestrian was struck and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Speaking on Friday evening, Duty Insp. Peter Wehby said a pickup truck was travelling north on Atlas Avenue and turning onto Vaughan Road when the driver struck the pedestrian.

The victim was an elderly woman, who police said was crossing the street.

Wehby said there was nothing to indicate the driver was speeding and said no charges had been laid.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police said roads were closed in the area and urged motorists to “consider alternate routes.”
