ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Military personnel are preparing to return home after spending the last 10 days helping Newfoundlanders rebuild in the wake of hurricane Igor.
Lieutenant Ian McIntyre says army troops are completing work on a bridge in Petit Forte Tuesday.
If all goes according to plan, they’ll be ready to leave Wednesday.
The last remaining Sea King helicopter is also expected to return Wednesday to 12-Wing Shearwater in Nova Scotia.
Igor dumped more than 200 millimetres of rain in some areas when it struck September 21st.
Troops have done everything from surveying damage to repairing roads and installing bridges.
In all, a-thousand military personnel, three Sea King helicopters and two navy frigates have been involved in the relief effort along the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas.
Hundreds of navy personnel have already shipped out of the province.
