Toronto police said emergency crews responded to the area of Coxwell Avenue and Dundas Street East in the city’s east end at around 10:20 a.m. for reports of a stabbing.

Insp. Suzanne Redman told reporters that officers located a man in his 60s with serious, life-threatening injuries. She said the stabbing occurred outside.

Toronto paramedics told Global News the victim was taken to a trauma centre.

Redman said the victim has since been pronounced dead and a suspect — a man — was taken into custody.

No other suspects are outstanding at this time, she added.

“The homicide squad has been notified and will be attending. Forensic identification services is en route,” Redman said.

Redman said it’s “far too early” to say what the connection may have been between the suspect and the victim.
