A man in his 20s is dead after a two-alarm house fire in Brampton Friday morning, officials say.
Emergency crews responded to the scene in the area of Airport Road and Treeline Boulevard, south of Countryside Drive, at around 10 a.m.
Peel Paramedics told Global News a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene and a Brampton firefighter was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure with reports of smoke inhalation.
Paramedics said there weren’t any other patients.
Peel police Const. Neil Nijjer said the victim was located inside once the fire was put out and the home was searched.
“Despite the best efforts from Peel paramedics, the male was pronounced deceased on scene,” he said.
There is no word on what may have led to the fire. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Peel police are now investigating.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and community following the news of one person’s passing,” a spokesperson for the fire marshal’s office said.
“An OFM fire investigation works to identify the origin, cause, and circumstance of a fire incident. As our investigation has just begun, it remains too early to provide further information.
“Although not related to this incident, we remind the public to ensure that you have working smoke alarms on every storey of your home and that you and your family have a home fire escape plan to get out safely in the event of a fire.”
