In recent weeks, my husband has taken to calling me Forest…and while at times along the race route, I felt a bit “gumpy”, all in all it was a truly amazing experience!
I was pretty proud of my final time, 1 hour and 17 odd minutes. When I crossed that finish line, I felt like I still had more steam….at least to run around the block a few more times!
The day was awesome, sunny and warm. The support along the route was truly amazing. People in lawn chairs enjoying a cup of coffee, people waving Canadian flags, offering words of encouragement, clapping and cheering. Wow! I had no idea. As I past St. Patrick’s Church there was even a hand written sign with a message from the congregation. I was overwhelmed…and even now I get a bit teary.
What a fantastic community event. This is a spectacular city and I’m so glad I was part of the Marathon. There were people of every age, weight, fitness level and experience level, but the organizers make you feel like you’re a true sports hero. I’m so proud of my blue ribboned medal.
I congratulate my colleagues…Andrea who completed the route in under an hour. Way to go, girl! Scott Lynch who placed 7th in his age category for the 5 km…pretty cool. And to Lauren who ran the Youth Run in the rain…you guys rock and you helped keep me motivated.
And now, I’m off to my daughters school as a parent volunteer for the Grade 5 bake sale. “Oh, the joy!”
