My Muscles Keep Me Humble

48 hours from now, my 10k will be complete (that is, if all goes according to plan).  I have to admit that this past week I’ve struggled with my runs more than usual.

After filling up at the gas station last weekend I decided that I needed to take serious steps towards lessening my carbon footprint.  My first plan of action: instead of driving across town to the gym, I ran down, did a mini-workout, and ran back home.  My leg and butt muscles took a long time to forgive me for that one – three days of pain!

Wednesday night, the video screening I helped curate was opening at the Dal Art Gallery.  I walked down to the gallery after dinner, then afterwards ran home the long way, completing my regular 10K route. Yesterday I was only able to manage the slower, more truncated version of that because, well, I was just too friggin’ tired to do any more!  And tonight I’ll put in my last solid run before Sunday morning.

There are so many sources of inspiration and motivation heading into this weekend from which I will draw my strength and determination on Sunday AM.  My co-workers, my family, my boyfriend and friends, and the stories I’ve been hearing about people like ultra-marathoner Ray Zahab, who is running 80K/day for 13 days in a row (one run per province/territory) to raise awareness for the ONExONE campaign.  Amazing!

Good luck to all and I hope to see you at either Speakers Corner, the Pasta Village, or somewhere along the race route… Giv’er!
