Search and Rescue dogs flying out to the Philippines to help with rescue efforts

More Canadian volunteers will be heading to the Philippines to help with rescue efforts, but they are not all human.

Search and Rescue dogs are set to fly out of Vancouver tonight to get to a region devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

They will join members of Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team. DART is already on the ground, helping to distribute emergency supplies and giving medical aid.

The Search and Rescue volunteers will help with the effort of finding any remaining survivors. They are bracing for the task to be grim.

“It is not a pretty story that’s for sure, but this is what we train for,” says Silvie Montier, Canadian Search and Disaster Dogs Association.

“We tend to forget a little bit the bad and hope for the best.”
