Global News is projecting Tany Yao will win the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo seat for the United Conservative Party.
Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo is a provincial riding located in northern Alberta.
This riding is currently represented by United Conservative MLA Tany Yao, who first took office in 2015. Yao collected 10,269 votes, winning 71.06 per cent of the vote in the 2019 Alberta provincial election.
Yao lost the 2023 UCP nomination to Zulkifl Mujahid, however Mujahid was disqualified as a candidate due to legal matters, the UCP announced April 19. Three days later, the UCP announced Yao would be the party’s candidate in the riding.
Mujahid later decided to re-enter the riding’s contest by running as an independent.
Funky Banjoko, who has served as a councillor for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, has also entered the contest by running as an independent.
