Made-in-Canada sci fi series ‘Helix’ to premiere Jan. 10

TORONTO — One of the most highly-anticipated new sci-fi shows, Helix, will debut Jan. 10 in Canada on Showcase.

The series, which has been in production in Montreal since July, stars Billy Campbell as the head of a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at a research facility in the Arctic. A battle to save mankind ensues.

“They realize the deeper that they go, the research they’re involved in has the potential to either save humanity or destroy it,” explained executive director Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) during a Comic-Con panel discussion to promote the series.

The series also stars Hiroyuki Sanada (Revenge), Kyra Zagorsky (Falling Skies) and Calgary-born, Montreal-raised Mark Ghanimé (Emily Owens M.D.).

Filming of 13 episodes is expected to wrap up in mid-December.
