Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a collision involving a Peel Regional Police cruiser was reported in Brampton early on Saturday morning.
Three people, including the officer, were reportedly injured in the collision.
In a tweet, Peel Regional Police say the crash between a police cruiser and one other vehicle took place near Main Street North and Vodden Street East.
Police said the officer suffered minor injuries.
Two people from the other vehicle were taken to hospital.
In a media release on Saturday afternoon, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said that a 57-year-old man had been seriously injured in the collision.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury or sexual assault, among other conditions.
The watchdog said a Peel police officer was on his way to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle when he was involved in a collision with a separate driver. That driver, the 57-year-old, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His two passengers were not seriously injured, the SIU said.
