One of the biggest “calorie bombs” when trying to eat healthy are those little snacks, which can easily add up to BIG snacks if you aren’t conscious of what you’re eating.
In my job, I’m usually out and about most of the day, driving around from shoot to shoot. So I have gotten in the habit of stocking my lunch bag with at least a couple of healthy snacks. Here are 8 of my favourite, easy, healthy snacks you can grab and go, or easily stock at your desk.
1. No-fat no-sugar vanilla yogurt (I love Silhouette brand) with sliced strawberries, apples, blueberries or other fruit. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of All-Bran Buds or other high-fibre cereal on top for that satisfying crunch (and super fibre boost).
2. Two to three slices of lean deli meat with sliced cucumbers or red peppers.
3. Apple with a tbsp of almond butter.
4. A quarter cup of toasted soynuts.
5. Half a can of tuna with chopped apple and celery. Use a tsp of reduced-fat dressing to moisten. Spread on 1 whole-grain crispbread (i.e. Ryvita).
6. Microwave popcorn – love the individual size so you can’t overindulge (i.e. Smartpop Mini Bags).
7. Hard-boiled egg and fruit (fresh, crispy apples or pears are always lovely).
8. When you’re craving something sweet, have a hot cocoa. Use sugar-free cocoa mix with unsweetened soya milk or skim milk. Top with a few mini marshmallows.
