SASKATOON – The second day of an inquest into the death of Brandon Daniels has heard a decision by a detention sergeant not to seek a medical assessment was a fatal one.
Daniels, who was 19 at the time, was arrested after being found barely conscious and covered in vomit in front of a downtown cinema.

Police thought he was drunk.
He died in a police cell 12 hours after his arrest,. Toxicology reports found he overdosed on Tylenol.
Sergeant Randy Huisman told the court arresting officers couldn’t take Daniels to the 12 bed brief detox centre because it was full.
He said a junior constable who was working just her second shift with the service said she thought Daniels needed medical assistance but didn’t speak up.
The court also heard services to deal with mental health issues on the street exist in other cities but not in Saskatoon.
The inquest runs until Friday.
