An emergency alert issued Friday night by Moose Jaw police after a man shot a gun at officers was cancelled just after 11 p.m. Friday.
On Oct. 21, 2022, Moose Jaw Police Service investigators determined firearms were present in a residence on the 800 block of 4th Avenue NW.
Moose Jaw police and the Regina Police Service Tactical Unit were activated to support the search.
Before their arrival, however, an individual left the residence, fired a handgun at police and ran from the scene. No officers were struck or injured.
Both the tactical unit and canine began searching the area before setting up a perimeter. Around 9:50 p.m., gunshots were reported near a residence on the 300 block of Ross Street W.
Police responded and located an individual in a backyard on Ross St.
“Crisis negotiators engaged this individual in an effort to have him surrender and at 10:36 p.m., police took him into custody without further incident,” Moose Jaw police said in a press release.
Jirad Saddleback, a 32-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, will be charged with:
- Attempted Murder
- Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of the proceeds of crime
- Several firarm and weapon related offences.
Police said other potential charges are still being investigated.
Saddleback was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being Unlawfully at Large out of Calgary, Alberta.
Three additional males and one female were also arrested in connection to the incident. Charges are pending for these individuals as the investigation is ongoing.
The Moose Jaw Police Service would like to assure the public there is no further risk related to this incident and no members of the public were injured during this incident.
