Two people have died after the SUV they were travelling in was involved in a collision south of Edmonton on Thursday.
The crash also sent three people to hospital.
In a news release issued Thursday night, Wetaskiwin RCMP said the driver and passenger of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another passenger in the same vehicle was airlifted to a hospital in the Edmonton area with what police described as “serious injuries.”
The two-vehicle crash occurred at Highway 814 and Township Road 472 shortly after 1:30 p.m.
“Preliminary investigation indicates a pickup truck was heading south on Highway 814 when it crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic in the area of Township Road 462 and collided with an SUV that was travelling north,” the RCMP said.
Police said the driver and passenger in the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in the Edmonton area.
Wetaskiwin RCMP said an investigation looking into the cause of the deadly crash is ongoing.
