Canoeists and potential river users should take care this weekend, as the amount of water flowing in the South Saskatchewan River through Saskatoon is expected to double by Sunday, according to a news release issued Friday by the Meewasin Valley Authority (MVA).

The flow is expected to increase to 600 cubic metres per second, according to the release. Water levels will increase by as much as one metre.
The MVA said these levels can be hazardous to novice kayakers and canoeists, as they could cause dangerous currents. Sandbars will be unstable for sunbathers, waders and other river users.
