One person is dead following a fatal crash involving a scooter and a pickup truck on Hamilton’s east side.
Hamilton Police say the collision happened on Parkdale Avenue North near Burland Crescent around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Investigators believe a 24-year-old Hamilton man in the truck was headed northbound on Parkdale and came together at Burland with the Yamaha scooter, operated by a 70-year-old man travelling in the opposite direction.
“The driver of the Ford pickup began to turn left at the intersection and struck the scooter causing a collision,” police said in a release.
The scooter rider suffered significant injuries and was transported to a trauma centre by paramedics.
The man died in hospital.
There were no other injuries in the collision.
The incident is officially the 16th traffic-related fatality so far in 2022 — with nine involving pedestrians.
Police fully reopened Parkdale Avenue just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon following an investigation.
Anyone with information or had seen the crash are being asked to reach out to Hamilton Police.
