REGINA – Fifty-five people at SaskGaming are losing their jobs as the corporation restructures.

SaskGaming president and CEO Twyla Meredith says the corporation is centralizing management of the two casinos in Regina and Moose Jaw to be more efficient.

The jobs cuts are in management and administration.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Casino Regina was the first full-service gaming facility in Saskatchewan when it opened in 1996, followed by Casino Moose Jaw in 2002.

The casinos regularly experienced double-digit growth in the early years.

But Meredith says revenue at both casinos has flattened over the past few years and measures were needed to manage expenses.

“This situation is not unique to SaskGaming,” said Meredith.

“The entire gaming industry in Canada has reached a mature stage in the market cycle, experiencing flattening or declining revenues. It was time to take a close look at our organization, how we do things and how we are structured.”
