June 23, 1993: Prime Minister Brian Mulroney meets with German- Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber at his residence at Harrington Lake in the Gatineau Hills of Quebec. Schreiber says they made a deal then to work together in the future. Mulroney denies any agreement was reached.
June 25, 1993: Mulroney formally resigns as prime minister.
Aug. 27, 1993: Mulroney and Schreiber meet at a hotel at Montreal’s Mirabel Airport. Schreiber says he gave Mulroney $100,000 cash. Mulroney, who is still an MP, says it was $75,000.
Dec. 18, 1993: Mulroney and Schreiber meet at the coffee shop at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel where Mulroney, who is no longer an MP, gets another envelope stuffed with cash. Schreiber says it contains $100,000; Mulroney again says $75,000.
Dec. 8, 1994: Mulroney and Schreiber meet at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. Schreiber says he gives Mulroney $100,000 cash. Mulroney says it was $75, 000.
Nov. 7, 2007: Schreiber alleges in a court affidavit he and Mulroney agreed to a $300,000 lobbying deal during their meeting at Harrington Lake on June 23, 1993.
Nov. 9, 2007: Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he’s launching an independent review of Schreiber’s new allegations about his dealings with Mulroney.
Nov. 13, 2007: Harper announces a public inquiry will be held into the Mulroney-Schreiber affair.
June 12, 2008: Justice Jeffrey Oliphant of Manitoba is appointed to conduct the inquiry.
March 30, 2009: The inquiry begins.
April 14, 2009: Schreiber begins four days of testimony.
May 12, 2009: Mulroney begins six days of testimony.
July 28, 2009: The inquiry ends.
Aug. 2, 2009: Schreiber is extradited to Germany on tax evasion and fraud charges.
May 5, 2010: Schreiber is convicted of tax evasion in Germany and sentenced to eight years in prison.
May 31, 2010: Justice Jeffrey Oliphant has found former prime minister Brian Mulroney breached federal ethics guidelines in his once-secret business dealings with German-Canadian lobbyist Karlheinz Schreiber.
