SASKATOON – Local families came together in Saskatoon to raise funds for a rare genetic disorder.

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is characterized by an insatiable appetite, low muscle tone and variable levels of development and intellectual delays.

The One Small Step fundraiser took place in Victoria Park with a walk to raise awareness about the disorder.

Funds raised will go to The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Canada.

PWS occurs in one in every 15,000 births, according to the foundation.

There is no cure for PWS but there are options available to help children and families affected by it so they can live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Organizers say since there are so few cases of the syndrome in Saskatchewan, getting attention and even connecting with new families is challenging.
