SASKATOON – Police say two Saskatoon men suffered injuries after pipe a bomb exploded in the Westview neighbourhood Friday night.

Just after 8:30 p.m., emergency services and the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) responded to a 911 call at a residence on Wentworth Crescent.

Police say a 20-year-old Saskatoon man was attempting to build a pipe bomb when it accidentally detonated.

He was taken to hospital with severe injuries to his hand.

Another 20-year-old Saskatoon man was in close proximity to the blast and was injured.

EDU conducted a search to make sure there were no other explosives on site.

Police say there is no indication as to why the young man was fabricating the pipe bomb at this time.
