Heavily armed emergency response officers were deployed to a small apartment complex in the area of Smedley Street and 10 Avenue on Sunday morning.

Mounties responded to a report of a man with a weapon “contemplating self-harm,” police said in a news release. Officers set up a perimeter and a negotiator tried to contact the man.

“Around 6:30 a.m., RCMP arrived and quickly secured the area and asking all surrounding residents to head to their basements,” Coun. Scott Nelson told Global News.
