One person is dead following an afternoon shooting in Peterborough on Saturday in what is now the city’s second homicide this year.
According to the Peterborough Police Service, one person died of their injuries in hospital following a shooting on Park St. North around 2 p.m.
On Monday morning, police said the victim was 37-year-old man. His identity was not released as police cited the ongoing investigation.
Police cordoned off the area south of Sherbrooke Street and were focusing on a home. On Saturday evening police said it was not an active shooter situation.
According to acting police chief Tim Farquharson, investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident but not a random act. The search for suspect(s) continues, he said.
It’s the second homicide in the city this year and the second fatal shooting on Park Street. On April 21 a shooting claimed the life of a 31-year-old Mississauga man and sent another 29-year-old Mississauga man to hospital.
“We are addressing it with every officer available,” said Farquharson of Saturday’s shooting. “We are doing everything we can.”
No other details were provided, citing the ongoing investigation, Farquharson said.
Police ask that anyone with information call the service’s crime line at 705-876-1122 ext. 555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca.
Police continue to investigate that shooting along with another on Park St. South on June 8 in which a man was found with gunshot wounds to his leg.
