EDMONTON- The province wants to know what you would like to see in Alberta’s next budget.
Led by Finance Minister Doug Horner, the government is hosting a series of open houses aimed and finding out what Albertans see as priorities for next year’s budget.
“We’re talking a lot about savings, capital infrastructure, where we go from here,” Horner explained Wednesday night. “We’re able to clarify a few myths that are out there in terms of whether we have any savings left. We have a significant amount of savings. We haven’t blown through it.”
Edmonton was the second city to play host to the public consultation; government officials were in Athabasca for a similar event Wednesday afternoon.
Horner says residents in both cities have brought up infrastructure as a key focus point.
“It’s open to whatever anybody wants to talk to us about. In Athabasca they talked about core service delivery, they talked about infrastructure, talked about K-12, they talked about balancing,” Horner explained. “So this is about listening to Albertans and getting their view. It’s about building a better Alberta, it’s about living within our means, it’s about market accesses coming up. So all of those themes are coming through.”
The government is hosting 11 budget consultations in cities across Alberta between October 9 and 18.
