CALGARY- When the June floods wreaked havoc throughout southern Alberta, thousands of people rushed to help those who were hit hardest. From making food to cleaning out drenched basements, there were many examples of heroism, and the government is now looking to honour those people.

The Heroes of the Flood campaign will see groups or individuals nominated for the work they did in the aftermath of the flood.

“In the days after the flood, I met some extraordinary Albertans with big hearts who were more selfless, resilient, and brave than I could have imagined possible,” said Premier Redford in a statement. “It’s so important to me that we recognize those Albertans who have, and are going, above and beyond to help.”

Albertans are invited to share their stories through a nomination form, which can be submitted until December 20.Starting in January, those local heroes will be officially recognized. Anyone can be nominated, whether they’re an official, public servant, neighbour or volunteer.
