In an initial release, police say they were responding to a 911 call at around 3:30 a.m. when they found a man lying on the road with serious injuries.

“They discovered a man lying on the road with serious injuries and began administering CPR until the arrival of EHS, who transported him to Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” a statement said.

Tyler Anthony MacNeil, 31, was found in the area and taken into custody shortly after in what police were first calling a suspicious death.

MacNeil was taken to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre and is now facing a charge of second-degree murder, police say.

“While the investigation is ongoing, police continue to treat this as an isolated incident,” an updated release said on Wednesday.
