Classes are cancelled at a pair of high schools on Montreal’s south shore Friday after alleged threats were made against students and staff.
Châteauguay police said in a statement it is investigating comments made by email. The administration at école Louis-Philippe-Paré brought the threats to the police’s attention.
“As a preventive measure, a police presence at the secondary school is maintained,” the police department said.
École Louis-Philippe-Paré issued a brief message on its website, saying parents, students and staff were informed about the situation.
Meanwhile, Magdeleine high school in La Prairie was also forced to close again late Friday morning for a police operation. In a message to its website, the school’s administration said students were being sent home and that the situation was under control.
Earlier in the week, Magdeleine was shut down amid reports of a possible armed threat. The incident resulted in two arrests Thursday.
The Châteauguay police and Roussillon police department said Friday afternoon they have reason to believe the events at both high schools are related.
An update provided by Rousillon police later in the day states that the operation at Magdeleine high school ended at 4:25 p.m.
Sûreté du Québec dog handlers and officers from the bomb disposal unitwere involved in a search of the premises.
Rousillon police said no threats were found.
The investigation continues, however, to uncover who was behind the incident.
