SASKATOON – Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon (HFHS) will embrace World Habitat Day and launch its $100,000 in 100 days initiative.

It comes on World Habitat Day, which raises awareness about decent housing for the global population.

The non-profit group estimates there’s a shortage of close to 6,000 affordable homes in Saskatoon.

They’re aiming to build 20 homes a year by 2020.

“We’re really asking women to inspire other women to participate so we’re asking for 100 women to contribute $1000 each and build a home for a family,” said Tara Martin, HFHS.

“The $100,000 would be enough to complete the homes that we’ve started here.”

Global Village Habitat in Saskatoon is also looking for volunteers to travel to Nicaragua to help build housing for impoverished families this February.
