Mayoral candidates prepare for University of Calgary forum

CALGARY – With the municipal election just two weeks away, voters have a chance to learn more about the mayoral candidates at a forum at the University of Calgary on Monday.

The event is at 7 p.m. in Macewan Hall (Ballroom).

However, one of Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s opponents won’t be able to attend, because he is out of the country.

Former alderman and MLA Jon Lord is in Kansas City, Missouri to compete in the American Royal Barbecue Contest.

He’s there after winning the Barbecue on the Bow competition here in Calgary.

Lord said he made the commitment to attend the competition a year ago.

A few other forums will also be held in Calgary this week:

On Wednesday, October 9th there will be a forum for Ward 1 candidates at the University of Calgary at 7 p.m.

And on Thursday, October 10 there will be a forum for Ward 6 candidates at the Glendale/Glendale Meadows Community Centre.

That same evening, there will be a forum for Calgary Public School Board Trustees for Wards 5 & 10, 6 & 7, 8 & 9 at the Triwood Community Association.
