EDMONTON- A young Edmonton woman who courageously battled cancer for nearly two years passed away Wednesday night.
Crystal Amber Montgomery, 19, was diagnosed with bone cancer in July 2012. She went through countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments with a positive attitude and never gave up.
“I never said no to anything. I took every single treatment. I got sick like there was no tomorrow. I let them take my arm. I let them take my lung,” Crystal said in June as she continued her fight.
Crystal’s infectious personality touched the lives of many, including Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber. Last October, while in Edmonton for a concert, Bieber visited Crystal at the Cross Cancer Institute.
And while going through the fight of her life, Crystal’s biggest worry wasn’t for herself, but for her family.
“My parents have to go on living without me, and the rest of my family and my 12-year-old little brother has to go through the fact that his sister is going to die,” she said, holding back tears.
Crystal would have turned 20 next month. Her family wants to thank everyone for their support and kind words for Crystal over the past couple of years.
Thursday morning, Crystal’s mother, Rita, took to her Facebook and Twitter pages to share the following messages:
“Our beautiful angel Crystal Amber Montgomery decided tonight was the night. She is free of pain. We will forever love her and never forget her. Crystal, you are going to be the most happiest angel,” Rita’s Facebook status read.
