People came together Friday evening, to shown their support for a young Edmonton woman who is about to undergo a life changing procedure.
On Monday, Crystal Montgomery will undergo an amputation surgery to remove her arm from the shoulder down. The 18-year-old has osteosarcoma, a malignant bone tumour in her left shoulder.
Friday night, Crystal’s younger brothers dedicated their hockey game to her.
The boys’ team, the KC Warriors took on the Sherwood Park Saints at the Sherwood Park Arena. At the same time, friends collected donations for the family, to help with costs not covered by Alberta Health.

“We’re trying to help the family out with supporting them on financial needs that go towards some of her treatments. Some of them can cost up to $1,300 just for one injection,” said family friend Nicole New.
Crystal sang the national anthem before the game started. Her dad, Robert Montgomery, says it’s amazing to see her daughter out there doing what she loves.
“It just breaks me up. She’s shown some true courage and for her to be able to do this with everything that she goes through and just trying to be normal, to see her out there just tells me that her voice will always carry on.”
Crystal and her father say it means everything to have such a supportive group of people behind them through this tough time.
“It means everything to us right now. It’s a great show of support, not only for Crystal but for us as a family,” Robert said adding, “We appreciate everything that everybody is doing for us.”
“These people are with me through every single thing,” Crystal said adding, “These people mean a whole lot to me, they’re my extended family. So, this means everything to me because they’re giving their all just to help me.”
