WINNIPEG – A jewelry store owner was taken to hospital after his shop was robbed by multiple armed men on Wednesday morning.

Witnesses told CJOB Radio that multiple men entered Fort Richmond Jewellers on Pembina Highway at about 10:20 a.m.

David Flather, the brother of store owner Daniel Flather, said there were three or four men.

“He (Daniel Flather) tried to chase one of them off,” David Flather told CJOB. “They tried to grab him and tie him up with duct tape. He continued to fight. I think at that point, that’s when he got hit in the head, and then they smashed one of the cabinets. They did have a gun. I think they used a gun to smash the cabinet, I heard, and then they just took what they could out of that one cabinet and took off.”

His brother was physically and mentally shaken after getting hit in the back of the head by the robbers, Flather said.

Flather said he didn’t know how much jewelry the thieves took.
