Toronto police say a woman suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a vehicle that did not remain at the scene.
Emergency crews were called to Spadina Avenue and King Street at around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday for reports of a pedestrian-involved collision in the southbound lanes of Spadina Avenue.
The pedestrian was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, police said.
“This vehicle involved will have damage to the front end of the car … there are some vehicle parts that are left at the scene here,” Sgt. Murray Campbell, with Toronto Police Traffic Services, told reporters.

“We understand that the vehicle did come to a stop after the collision. And then, from there made their escape.”

Police said the vehicle, which is described as dark in colour and possibly a Mercedes Benz, fled the scene at a high rate of speed in a hit-and-run.
“They knew exactly what happened and they were fleeing,” Campbell said.
In an update Thursday afternoon, Campbell said the victim — a 30-year-old woman — remained in life-threatening condition.
He said the vehicle in question is a light-coloured Mercedes that had its roof down at the time of the collision.
