An inter-provincial Amber Alert for two allegedly abducted children from Fort St. John in northern British Columbia was cancelled Saturday afternoon.
RCMP said the four-year-old and 10-month-old and their mother were located safely, after the Ontario Provincial Police intercepted them in Kenora, Ont., near the Manitoba border around 6:30 p.m. ET.
A suspect was taken into custody with charges pending, RCMP said. The mother and children were receiving support, police said.
Fort St. John RCMP initially issued the alert regarding the two children and their mother mid-day Saturday, saying they had grounds to believe the trio were taken “against their will from their residence in Fort St. John and they are in danger while in (their father Jason Dalrymple’s) presence.”
Police had said Dalrymple was believed to be travelling east in an olive green Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the children, their mother, two dogs and a cat.
Before being cancelled, the alert was extended to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
RCMP thanked police and emergency officials across the country for extending the Amber Alert quickly, and thanked the public and media for their help in spreading the message.
Prior to the alert, the group had last been seen in Fort St. John around 11 a.m. on March 24, according to RCMP.
