Man dead after shooting in Brampton, police say

A man is dead after a shooting in Brampton, Ont., police say.

In a tweet Tuesday afternoon, Peel Regional Police said the incident occurred in the residential area of Wanless Drive and Hurontario Street just after 2:30 p.m.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday afternoon, Peel Regional Police Const. Donna Maruice said police arrived on scene and located a man outside of a residence with “obvious signs of trauma of a gunshot wound.”

“Despite the efforts of paramedics, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene,” Maurice said.

According to Maurice, the deceased is a man in his 20s.

Maurice said the force’s homicide and missing persons bureau have been notified and have taken charge of the investigation.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Maurice said, adding that officers are canvassing the area.

Maurice said at this time, police do not have any suspect information.

“There was a vehicle seen leaving the incident,” she said. “But we can’t confirm if it’s involved in this incident or not.”

Maurice said anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police.
