1 dead, 3 others sent to hospital after Saturday night crash east of Calgary

One person is dead and three others were sent to hospital after a crash Saturday night.

EMS said the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 1 and Garden Road around 9 p.m.

Police found a Jeep on its roof and two other passenger vehicles with damage. According to RCMP, the driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the jeep, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others — two men and a woman  — were rushed to Foothills hospital in serious condition. Police said the lone driver of a small passenger vehicle involved sustained minor injuries, as did two occupants of a second SUV involved in the collision.

RCMP said early investigation reveals the Jeep crossed over the centre line into the path of westbound travelling vehicles.

The RCMP criminal collision investigative team, along with its collision reconstructionist and members from the Strathmore and Chestermere RCMP detachments, continue to investigate.
