Saskatchewan’s NDP is calling on the Saskatchewan government to restore funding to the First Nations University of Canada (FNUC).
First Nations and Metis Relations critic Warren McCall says Premier Brad Wall should restore the $5 million worth of provincial funding they pulled from the struggling school. McCall also thinks Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris should urge the federal government to do the same.
McCall says changes within FNUC that were suggested by the governments were made and a new funding arrangement with the University of Regina is in the works.
Last week a delegation from FNUC went to Ottawa to speak with Federal Indian and Northern Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl. He denied to reinstate the $7.2 million the federal government pulled a month ago.
